What do flood zones 1 to 4 mean?

They are the insurers’ grading by flood risk: zone 1 is the lowest risk, zone 4 the highest. Each insurer sets its own terms for each zone.

Is a floodplain the same as a flood zone?

No. A floodplain is designated by the water authority under the law; flood zones are the insurers’ model. The two maps can therefore differ.

Find the zone

On the flood map of the Czech Insurance Association (ČAP), enter the address and note the zone, 1 to 4.

Check the floodplain

The Ministry of the Environment (MŽP) publishes flood hazard maps in its Central Data Store; floodplains are in POVIS.
