# The Czech cadastre, by address

> You find the building free in Nahlížení do katastru, the cadastre’s public viewer, and baseray adds its floors, completion period, height and volume.

## What the building record shows. Facts about the building you will not find in the cadastre.

- **Floors and completion period.** From the register, where known. A date entered in bulk for a whole municipality is shown as a period, not as a year that only looks exact.
- **Search by address.** Type the street and number and the building at that address opens, not just a point on the map.
- **Footprint, height and volume.** From the building’s outline. Every height says whether it was measured or estimated.
- **Businesses at the address.** Entities registered at exactly the building’s official address. A registered office does not mean ownership.

## From address to title. Three steps.

1. **Find the building.** In [Nahlížení do katastru](https://nahlizenidokn.cuzk.gov.cz/), choose the municipality and its part and enter the building’s číslo popisné or číslo evidenční. The číslo orientační, the street number, is not enough.
2. **Look it over.** You see the plot, the title number (list vlastnictví) and the registered owners. Floors, height and volume are on the building’s record in baseray.
3. **Request an extract.** A bank, a notary or an authority needs the official cadastre extract, for example from [Czech POINT](https://www.czechpoint.gov.cz/public/). The extract is paid.

## Cadastre questions. What the record holds, and what it does not yet.

### What is the difference between číslo popisné and číslo orientační?

The číslo popisné is given to a building by the municipality and is unique within the part of the municipality. The číslo orientační marks the entrance on the street. In an address they are written one after the other, for example 1200/12.

### Is looking up the cadastre free?

Yes, and without registration. Only the official extract is paid.

### Does baseray show the property’s owner?

No. The owners registered in the cadastre are in Nahlížení do katastru. baseray shows facts about the building.
